“Baghdad”(1952) was produced by J B Lulla and directed by Nanabhai Bhatt for Falcon Films, Bombay. This “fantasy” movie had Ranjan, Bharati, Yashodhara Katju, Anwar, Veera, Kamal, Samson, S Nazeer, Kanta, Nagpal, Anant Prabhu, Bhupen Kapoor, Habeeb, Sabu (the mule), Bhagwan etc in it.
The movie had eight songs in it. I had discovered this song in 2011 and then I had discussed three songs from the movie.
After a passage of nearly six years, here is the fourth song from “Baghdad”(1952) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the song. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this rare song.
Song-Khuli jo aankh to badla hua zamaana thhaa…dil mein gham e mohabbat (Baghdad)(1952) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, MD-Bulo C Rani
khuli jo aankh to o o
badla huaa zamaana thha
na shaakh thhi ee
na chaman thha aa aa aa
na aashiyaaana thha
dil mein gham e mohabbat
aankhon mein iltijaayen
pehli hai raat gham ki
kaise ise bitaayen
dil mein gham e mohabbat
aankhon mein iltijaayen
ye keh rahi hain aankhen
aansoo baha baha ke
ye keh rahi hain aankhen
aansoo baha baha ke
doobi hamaari kashti ee ee
saahil ke paas aa ke
barbaad kar rahi hai
taqdeer ki hawaayen
pehli hai raat gham ki ee
kaise ise bitaayen
nazron se door hain wo
yaad unki paas mere
nazron se door hain wo
yaad unki paas mere
karte hain yaad unko o
naghme udaas mere
ae aansuon bata do
kaise unhen bhulaayen
pehli hai raat gham ki ee
kaise ise bitaayen
kaise ise bitaayen
